The middle school volleyball and soccer teams played their home openers on September 14. Due to Covid, the two teams have not seen playing time in over a year. The soccer team is a young team with nine fifth-graders, six sixth-graders, one seventh-grader, and four eighth-graders. The team is making significant progress and has been surprised by the number of goals they have scored in their first two games. In Tuesday’s game, they were strong. Austin Meyers scored two goals and made a penalty kick to lead the team to a 9-3 win.
The volleyball team is also starting fresh. Except for two players, the squad is new to the game. They have strengthened their passing and are working on serving, receiving the ball, and ball control. The players are enjoying their time together and find that they are all very supportive of each other. Sophie Mollgaard started with an eight-serve streak in Tuesday’s game, but the team struggled to return the ball. As a result, the team lost in two games.
It was a great afternoon of athletics and it felt good to see sportsmanship at its finest.
