Harini started at MSSA as a kindergartner and will soon be graduating as an 8th grader. She began participating in spelling bees in second grade and competed in a few national and international spelling bees for a couple of years. In 2017, she registered and won the San Antonio regional bee for the first time as a fourth-grader and made it to the Scripps National Spelling Bee proudly representing MSSA and San Antonio, Texas. Since then she has competed in several bees over the summer and also won the regional bee all consecutive years except 2020, when the bee was canceled due to COVID, gaining a fully sponsored trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Her national bee rankings have been T-323, T-31, T-29, and T-30. Being in eighth grade, this is Harini’s final year of eligibility to participate in Scripps National Spelling Bee. She is excited and is looking forward to giving her best. She will be competing against several school champions (almost 100+) from schools in and around San Antonio at the Brauntex Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 26th, 2022. As she comes to the end of her successful spelling bee journey, she greatly appreciates how this journey has transformed her as a person teaching valuable life skills such as persistence, hard work, focus, failure, teamwork, speaking, vocabulary, writing, and networking. She is gearing up towards high school and is planning on giving back to the spelling community through several avenues such as offering to be a judge for these bees, mentoring and coaching young spellers in her community and across the globe, nurturing their love of words and reading. To watch Harini this weekend, tickets can be purchased at www.brauntex.org.
