Harini Logan will participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Preliminaries this June on ESPN 3. Logan became the Brauntex Bee champion, San Antonio’s regional spelling bee competition, in March and received a perfect score on the Scripps National Spelling Bee online district-level test.
Harini has been participating in spelling bees since she was in second grade at MSSA. Watching the Scripps National Spelling Bee on ESPN inspired her interest in spelling bees, and her passion for reading helped her progress. Harini competed in numerous spelling bees between 2016-2018, and participated in the San Antonio Express-News Regional spelling bee for the first time in her fourth grade. She proudly represented MSSA and competed against various school champions from across the region. She placed first and won a free trip to her first Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2018. The experience at the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s Bee Week excited her and meeting with fellow spellers motivated her to continue her spelling journey. She won the Regionals in 2019 as well and made it to the Nationals, where she placed T-29 as a fifth-grader. Due to the pandemic, the Scripps National Spelling Bee was canceled last year but it will resume this year virtually. The virtual competition will air on ESPN 3 on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Harini will be speller #169.
